The Hostal El Balcon or The Balcony is located in the street Tambo de Montero 222 Cusco, three blocks from the main plaza or Plaza de Armas. The house was constructed on top of Inkan agricultural terraces. Since the Inka Era, a Tambo was considered a place of rest for travelers and tradesmen similar to that of a hotel or Inn. Official documents for the house, El Balcon, date back to the 1630’s and because of its location and architecture it was most likely the house of Don Pedro de Montero de Espinosa, Potuguese merchant. . We chose the name "El Balcon" for our Inn because it still has a balcony along the entire house which dates back to the Colonial Period.

We have created a list of recommendations and tips as a service to our guests in order to make your visit a pleasant one. Before your arrival, we recommend you keep the following in mind:

To bring warm and light clothing (during the day the sun is intense but in the shade it can get cold and especially at night)

During your visit to Machu Picchu, the weather can get very warm or wet.

Once you arrive, we recommend:

To rest for a few hours and drink coca tea or lots of water in order to avoid headaches and fatigue (which we provide throughout your stay)

To eat light for the first few days (from personal experience, we recommend you not eat chocolate and very little meat) as your digestion works slower at a higher altitude.

To take taxis at night.

To change money at Money Exchange houses and not on the street.

To consult our staff, should you want to take an excursion.

The climate in Cusco varies throughout the day and year. At dawn, during the months of June, July and August, temperatures can drop below freezing.

Please consult the Peruvian weather channel.
